About Andizhan

Located in the Fergana Valley of Uzbekistan, Andizhan is a local center of economy and culture. The history of Andizhan, the oldest settlement in the Fergana Valley, is estimated to extend back to the 7th century AD. Andizhan, which was an important stop on the ancient Silk Road, is also of historical importance as the city where Babür was born. Andizhan, the most important industrial city in the region, produces industrial goods such as chemicals, household appliances, electronics, food, furniture, shoes, agricultural machinery parts, engineering tools and wheelchairs.

In 2005, the Uzbekistan army intervened to suppress a local rebellion that aimed to improvethe local living conditions, and many people died. There are 4 universities in the city, the biggest being Andizhan Medical Institute. In addition to these, there are 4 colleges, 21 vocational colleges, 47 middle schools, 3 arts and music schools, 9 sports schools and 86 kindergartens. The surrounding region has a semi-arad desert climate, where winters are cold and summers are hot. Rainfall is irregular and mild, especially during the summer months.
