About Tel Aviv

Tel Aviv-Yafo, a major city on Israel's Mediterranean coast, is situated approximately 60 km northwest of Jerusalem. Founded in 1909 as a garden suburb of the ancient port of Jaffa, which it was later merged with in 1950, Tel Aviv has evolved into a significant economic and cultural hub by the early 21st century. It became the largest city in the region before the mid-20th century and remains the core of Israel's largest metropolitan area, representing a substantial portion of the national population. The city is recognized as Israel's economic engine, hosting government ministries, including the Ministry of Defense, and serving as the headquarters for most of the country's large corporations and foreign embassies.

It contrasts with Jerusalem's conservative and historical nature by being more secular, liberal, and focused on contemporary life. The city has undergone significant beautification and development, especially near its beaches, enhancing its appeal as a center of economic activity and cultural richness. Tel Aviv is also famed for its architectural heritage, particularly the White City area, renowned for its Bauhaus and International Style buildings, designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2003.

Train
