Karshi is the capital city of Kashkaderyo, which is one of the 12 states of Uzbekistan, which is home to Samarkand, Bukhara and Khorezm as well as Maveraunnehir that is an important place in terms of Turkic history. Karshi is also the most important city of Uzbekistan in terms of natural gas and textile industry. The city, where the Mongol Emperor Genghis Khan had build the summer palace and ruled the world for a while, now stands out as the industrial city in the region. Petroleum is also produced in the city, which hosts the most important natural gas reserves in the country. Hoca Abdulaziz Madrasah, Rabia Kız Madrasah, Hoca Kurban Madrasah and Kok Gumbaz Mosque are the most important structures of the Central Asian Turk-Islamic architecture in the city, which also has the army buildings and palace remnants dating from the time of Genghis Khan and Timur. Karshi Airport is located 15 kilometers away from Karshi, the most important natural gas city of the country, where the Russian influence still continues; in addition to domestic flights, international flights only from Russia are available at the airport.
