Kaohsiung is Taiwan's second largest city with a population close to 3 million. Located on the shores of the Taiwan Strait, the city has an important place in the country's economy, as well as in trade, politics, transportation, industry, treatment plants and shipbuilding. The city is home to Kaohsiung International Airport, Taiwan's third largest airport, and Kaohsiung Port, the largest sea port in the country. The city announced its name to the world in 2009 as the city where the World Olympics took place.

Located in the tropical climate zone, Kaohsiung city has a temperature of 20-29 degrees Celsius per year accompanied by high humidity. Especially in June, July and August the temperature rises excessively, the humidity is too high and the city is under the effect of heavy rainfall. For this reason it is recommended to visit the city especially between November and March.

As a rare example scooter, is the most widely used vehicle for urban transportation in Kaohsiung. You can rent scooters in many places, ride comfortably on private scooter routes, and safely leave your vehicle in private parking spaces. If this method of transportation is not suitable for you, you can easily reach almost every point of the city with an advanced metro network. Two and three-wheeled bicycles are also common in urban traffic. The prices are also quite affordable.

The island of Cijin, which is located on the outskirts of the city harbor, is a must-see place. The Chihou Lighthouse and the TianHou Temple, Kaohsiung's oldest temple, are the main points to visit. In addition, this island has very good fish restaurants which have a very rich sea fruits menu. The Tuntex Sky Tower, the tallest building in Kaohsiung City, deserves to be seen as one of the city's architectural icons. You can go to Dream Mall for shopping. A trip plan can be made for Bengmipang, a region where you can closely observe traditional architecture and traditions of local people. Central Park, which you can easily reach by subway, is a getaway point with beautiful landscape as well as different activities inside. Shoushan, also known as Monkey Mountain, is a place where you can closely observe monkeys. There is also a small exotic zoo. Do not forget that feeding monkeys is prohibited and that some may become aggressive or steal your camera. Lotus Lake should also take its place on your must-see list.  Around the lake, which is surrounded with temples and covered with lotus, there are lots of street food dealers and souvenir alternatives, such Taiwanese puppets. Do not forget to drink tea in the mountains and add tea to your shopping list.
