About Balikesir

A district of the Turkey's Balıkesir province in the Marmara Region, Edremit is situated on the Aegean coast. Its approximate population is 130,000, and a high number of international and domestic tourists visit the area in the summer months.
 
A Mediterranean climate characterized by hot summers, and mild and rainy winters predominates Edremit. Snow is a rare weather event. Although the center of the district is not located by the sea, most of its towns are, which makes the climate more habitable. Therefore, many civilizations has been established here over time. Founded in 1443 B.C. with the name Pedasus, the district has also been the ground of many battles as it was positioned on significant trade routes. In addition to sights to see such as the Sarıkız Tomb, Gölcük Creek, Hasanboğuldu Lake, and Sütüven Waterfall, the beaches in its towns such as Akçay, Altınoluk and Zeytinli, all popular destinations for domestic tourists, are also well known. The Kaz Dağı (Mount Ida) National Park in the area, on the other hand, is where the beauty of a great variety of plants and animal species is preserved. 
 
The Koca Seyit Airport serves for access by air, whereas Edremit is also conveniently reached by road and sea. It is fair to say that inner-city transport by buses and minibuses in the area is quite advanced thanks to the high number of vacationers.
